At the beginning of last year I ran a month-long program where we explored finding small windows of time each day to creatively or thoughtfully connect with the wild where we are planted. One of my favourite things about 15 Minute Enchantments was the group poem we made. And so I thought we might do something similar here.
Are you up for it?
I would love for us all to contribute to making a poem together.
There is no strict word limit, but I have found it is best to try to stick to a single sentence, 5 to 10 words would be beautiful, but again, there is no restriction.
Send me a line about something wild that inspires you.
You could provide a simple description of a wild landscape or wild being (or even a wild-hearted being)
You can send words that might even sound vague to the rest of us, but describe something very specifically real to you.
You could share the way something (a flower, a landscape, an animal or bird) makes you feel.
You could describe what the scent of a particular wild element brings to mind - flowers, rain, the sea.
You could put into words the embodying process of connecting to a wild being.
You could elaborate on the sounds of bird songs or coyote yips or fruit bats in the tree at night.
You might like to express how the feeling of bark under fingertips or cheeks feel when you connect meaningfully with a tree.
The options are endless.
Something from your wild heart.
Send me your wild words.
I will write the first and last line, then I will weave your words into a tapestry of the wild (the thought of this makes me shudder with delight!). I will send you an extraordinary poem made by us all at the end of the month (downloadable for you to print out too). I may need to adjust syntax or tense in your lines to fit in with what else we have, but you will definitely still recognise your own words in the finished poem.
What do you think? Will you join in?
You can leave your line at the bottom of this post on Substack, or respond to this email if I landed in your inbox, or you can contact me here
I would love for you to share this little project far and wide (wild). If you have someone you think might enjoy participating, please forward this post on to them - the more the merrier, the longer the poem, the more we get to celebrate the wild within and without.
PS: Should I open the doors again to 15 Minute Enchantments, updated with some other ideas I have had? You get lifetime access, and all future updates, and I have been thinking about adding a few things to encourage tiny wild enchantments and wonder walking… If it’s something you think you would enjoy, let me know.
A line for our Poem to the Wild:
A slow soft growl whispers through my grief
Love this! How about...
The delicate strength of wildflowers emerging from cracks in the pavement are a compass; leading me along my path, one step at a time.
