A calm capturing of a cougar in pencil (and writing ourselves into wild)
Some Sunday morning serenity to start your day
Breathe in.
Can you feel that?
The change in the air?
Our seasons are shifting - perhaps for you the cool is coming, for me an early spring.
This morning the red wattlebird woke me at 5:15 - a little earlier each morning. He is calling his heart out to find a perfect mate and embrace the march of time by manifesting the next generation. It is hard to be annoyed at his enthusiasm, despite it being dark outside still, and Sunday morning to boot.
I am trying something new - and I would love to hear what you think. I keep a couple of different types of sketchbooks, the one I am sharing today is one I may talk more about later, but is basically a place for me to get to know the shape and form of one of my more-than-human relatives in more detail. I thought I might read you my last post about writing ourselves into wild over the top of a video of me sketching in real time. Savour slow and purposeful - no room for sped up today. I am an artist, and I want to celebrate that here too, even though this little slice of delight is primarily for my words.
This is me, though, and it is what I want to share with you - artist, and burgeoning writer and all-round wild-obsessed.

I hope you find some calm while watching this little video. May your Sunday be filled with deliciously wild delights, tiny as bird song, or momentous as cougar yawns.
(For those wondering, in this video I am using a Stillman & Birn Zeta series sketchbook in A4 size, and a brown pencil - just a cheap, supermarket coloured pencil, no frills! I get my reference for these sorts of sketches from free-to-use (royalty free) sites like Pixabay and Unsplash)
To express Love as a verb, rather than a noun, then Love is Art in motion...
Oh this is beautiful in so many ways. I adore cougar and have had many interesting experiences with her. Braiding Sweet Grass is my favourite book of all time, so much wisdom woven through every page. You also have a lovely reading voice Nat, what a lovely way to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon, watching your work unfold while listening to your story. Thank you!!
